dusting off the blog

A new year is here. Yay. Read that with as little enthusiasm as it deserves.

So anywhoo, while hanging out with my daughters, my oldest brought up new year’s resolutions. I haven’t made resolutions in forever, don’t really abide by them. Tinhinan shared hers, and among my reactions, besides nodding and agreeing in general, was that she was too strict. “Go to the gym every day,” one says. “Every day?” But she says aiming high helps her, keeps her motivated. I am not like that. If I can’t meat a goal, I feel like I’ve failed and then I give up, so I tend to aim low.

That said, I’ve come up with a few small goals for 2025.

  1. Read at least 13 books. This number may seem miniscule, but I only read 7 in 2024, and only 2 in 2023, so, yeah.
  2. Progress on my novel/series. Any progress counts. Any at all. Aim low, right?
  3. Be more active. I’m shooting for walking once a week. If my arthritic knees can handle it. And if I can handle it emotionally. I hate taking walks. Mostly because I don’t like running into other people, which inevitably happens. I’d love taking walks in places with no people around.
  4. Volunteer. So I’m pretty decent at donating money, but not so much time. And it’s not that I don’t have the time, it’s the whole interacting with people thing again. But I think I’d really like to do this and there are two local charities I support, so I’m hoping I can find ways to get involved locally. One is the local food bank. The other is the Social Justice Sewing Academy. The latter I heard of only because of an online fanfic forum I used to be active in. “I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad” that it took someone across the country to tell me about a charity in my own city.
  5. Post more. I’m not even sure why. I tell myself one reason and then I scoff at myself. But this post counts, so if I mean more than 2024, I only have to make seven more posts this year. Gotta have that seven reference in here. 😉

And because you all know I love music, today’s post is brought to you by Tears for Fears – Mad World.

Sending love to you all and wishing all of you the very best for 2025. 🩷

Making the same resolutions for 2025 that I’ve been making for the last several years:
    1. I will eat chocolate.
    2. I will scratch the chins of any resident cats who need this service.
