2022 Countdown: #33 – #27

The countdown continues. It’s so difficult to define what makes me rank one song higher than another. Number of plays is objective enough, except that’s not fair unless I prorate songs that come out later in the year, and that doesn’t quite work precisely either. So a lot of it is just based on feeling, and since it’s my personal countdown, that’s fine with me.

If you check out the youtube links (the green text), be sure to turn CCs on if available, especially if lyrics are important to you. They’re important to me. Also, up the default quality. Youtube used to allow that to be set, but now it apparently defaults to ‘as pixelated as possible’, aka apap, or papa, so, yeah, potato.

#33 APINK CHOBOM – COPY CATJust like a dream, Groove. Your heartbeat bounces along to the spark (spark).
I can’t put my finger on what it is about this song that makes me smile. The video still confuses me. The switch up in the middle confounds me. And yet, I love it.

#32 VICTON – STUPID O’CLOCKEven if morning comes and ruins this, at the speed determined by fate.”
Victon is one of my guilty pleasures, though I’m not sure why I feel guilty about liking them. Actually, I don’t feel guilty. So I guess they’re just a pleasure, cuz they’re mine, mi-i-i-ne.

#31 PSY – 9INTROTruth be told, I’m a bit of a jerk. Back in my day, this shit worked like a charm.
If you don’t know Psy (wait, who doesn’t know Psy?), this is a super fun introduction to his style and his hit songs.

#30 ID:EARTH – ESCAPEMy eyes are obsessed with the wasteland. Now I feel like finally I’m breathing. Hold on, how I feel like I was one of them, damn.
Angsty, but I like angst. I’m captivated by her voice and the way it floats along the melody, the emphasis and cadence not quite where it’s expected.

#29 DPR IAN – WINTERFALLCan you get this boulder off me? … The war in me.
Dream, reality, just trying to feel something. It’s moodswings into order. I get what he means.

#28 JVCKI WAI – GO BACKI stood on the same starting line as you. … I’ve come too far, I can never go back again.
Taking a racial slur and turning it around while encompassing hiphop and being true to herself.

#27 JESSI – ZOOMOoh, he lookin’ good in that Louis Louis; Ooh, she a cutie with a booty booty.
This song still makes me feel like a million bucks even though I don’t have that million bucks, bummer. The satire in this, the message she delivers, it’s everything I like about Jessi.

Next week, #26 – #20.
